A Rarebit of Posting

Greetings! It’s a pretty big leap to go from a June blog post to a mid‑October one. There’s been so much happening behind the scenes—so much, in fact, that my posting schedule went completely ary and then vanished altogether. I apologize for that. This project is mostly a one‑person rodeo, and I am that person.

Luckily, I’ve had the honor of working with a developmental editor in a year‑long process that helped shape Once Upon a Midnight Erie into a coherent and (hopefully) amusing experience. But now it’s just me—the me who is learning to format and reformat, to advertise, to market, to rewrite, to upscale old photos, refine recipes, and do last‑minute research.

But here’s the fun part: I finally get to share some of the new photos with you.

Before I do, let me back up a bit. For those of you who haven’t been with me from the beginning, this story is also a recipe book. The entire world of OUME was born from a food blog. As the story grew and transformed into an actual book, the food naturally came with it.

Originally, the book was intended to be in color. But as a debut author and self‑publisher, the cost of a full‑color print wasn’t possible—at least not yet. More on that in the future. For now, all photos had to be converted to black and white. And you know what? They fit right in. The black‑and‑white aesthetic ended up matching the eerie, folkloric tone of the story beautifully.

In the published book, look for these black‑and‑white shots of Welsh Rarebit—and the story that goes along with it.
